I'm an American, and I do believe my country has many faults. Yet, I'm perplexed as to why so many lament America as the sole contributor to the world's problems. There are nearly 200 nation-states on this earth, and each of them has helped to shape and sculpt the world of today. Chinese factories and cars release more greenhouse gases than do their American counterparts. Genocide and war ravage Africa, and America is blamed. Nevermind what centuries of racist European rule and subsequent abandonment contributed to this. Russia invades a democracy and receives little scrutiny from the world except America. My country invades a dictatorship and terrorist regime after being viciously attacked, and is then blacklisted. Allow me to say that no one can understand what happened on September 11 except for Americans themselves. Imagine being 15 and watching airliners destroy buildings while taking placement tests. Imagine hearing that some unknown enemy is attack the country on all fronts and witnessing utter pandemonium in the streets. America is a nation of many faults but many strengths as well. I only ask other nations to recognize their responsibilities for this world of ours and be a bit respectful of America.
