You'd think New York people was all wise; but no, they can't get a chance to learn. Every thing's too compressed. Even the hay-seeds are bailed hay-seeds. But what else can you expect from a town that's shut off for the world by the ocean on one side and New Jersey on the other?

My feelings about America are split. I'm like the (too many) Americans who hate homosexuality but who really like their friends Bill & Ted. I have lots of individual American friends, and I know in my heart that all Americans are just people, with good and bad points, largely kindly and caring to those around them - people I can care about. I don't want to hate America. But I do.

The public and national policies of America are as brutal as any we've ever seen in history. They literally result in death and torture. The minds and media of America are entirely corrupted by materialism (ESPECIALLY, alas, among the Christian right) and empty rhetoric rifted through endless soundbites.

There are many fine voices of dissent and critique within America but publicly the nation has lost its ability to think deeply or scientifically about any issue, and America's fine past is now being washed away in blood. The notions of liberty and democracy are such a bitter, bitter farce in the face of the many tens of thousands America and America alone hs caused to die in Iraq, let alone in Africa out of its neglect and bankrupting economic policies, or its deliberate violent intervention in backing torturing repressive military regimes in south America.

I don't want to hate America but until Americans learn to do globally what they always insist they do to each other on their sitcoms and in their movies- listen - I will hope that every American athlete comes last, that every nation locks Americans out out beyond their borders and boycotts their commercial products, that nature herself will visit disasters of increasing potency on the head of the nation most responsible for them. I will rejoice with every American soldier that falls in combat. If there truly was a god, his best act of vengeance would be to turn Dick Cheney, the CEOs of those companies that deal in weapons and the head of the NRA into good men - and then the knowledge of what they have done would be a torture beyond any other, and a fitting punishment for their sins.
