I have lived in the U.S. for almost 20 years now. I am now an American citizen. Becoming one, is one of the most conscious choices I've made in may life. If I had to choose one reason for loving this country, it is the opportunity it offers to choose to live a principled life, to work hard and rest on the reward for my effort with a clear conscience.

My experience has not been easy, but I would never have been able to accomplish what I have and retain my integrity and dignity anywhere else in the world. For the record, I raised my child as a single mother, for the most part I've had no family or relatives in this country to lend a hand, I had to literally learn to live among, reach out, depend on regular, American born people. I encountered appalling ignorance, of the kind recorded in this webpage; much prejudice; indifference, cluelessness. I also know that I came with the privilege of language and education from my country of origin, which made it incredibly easier for me to access the enormous amount of good will of the average American. So, I cannot possibly hate the people who leant me a hand, I can only work to ease the burden of ignorance that oppresses them, as it oppresses millions of others around the globe. Thanks for the chance to speak out.
